2022 Honda CR-V in Cincinnati

The Honda CR-V has constantly been one of the most popular entries in the mid-size SUV segment because of its well-rounded excellence and great value for money. For the 2022 model year, this SUV seeks to maintain its competitive edge with a number of styling and infotainment updates. Learn more about the 2022 Honda CR-V in this comprehensive guide:

2022 Honda CR-V Trim Levels

The 2022 Honda CR-V is expected to offer the same trim lineup as its predecessor. Therefore, it should be available in five trim levels: the base LX, EX, Special Edition, EX-L, and the range-topping Touring. Additionally, it offers three hybrid models: the Hybrid EX, Hybrid EX-L, and Hybrid Touring.

Exterior

The Honda CR-V has increased in size over the years, and it seems this trend will continue into the 2022 model year. According to spy shots, the SUV comes with redesigned headlights and grille that are almost similar to those found on the latest Honda Accord. It also appears to have a longer hood and rear overhang than the previous year’s model. Other than that, the CR-V will likely continue to feature the conservative and well-balanced styling that has made it appealing to a wide range of SUV buyers.

Powertrain

So far, Honda hasn’t announced any changes to the CR-V’s powertrain. As such, the SUV is expected to use the same 1.5-liter turbo-four engine that powers the 2021 model. Rated at 190 horsepower and 179 pound-feet of torque, this engine delivers brisk acceleration and more than sufficient power for almost any driving situation, from joining traffic on the highway to climbing steep mountain roads. A hybrid model of the CR-V comes with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and electric motors that combine for a total output of 212 horsepower.  The Honda CR-V is equipped with a continuously variable transmission that has earned praise for its precise and smooth operation. In other vehicles, this type of transmission often produces a droning noise and impedes acceleration. However, it’s quiet and responsive in the CR-V.

Handling

The Honda CR-V has always been focused on providing a comfortable ride rather than a lively driving experience. Its compliant suspension enables it to do a great job of absorbing bumps and road imperfections, resulting in a smooth and composed ride. While it isn’t the most athletic in its class, this SUV has well-weighted steering that makes it a breeze to maneuver in confined spaces and around tight corners. In addition, it’s fitted with strong brakes that contribute to a confident driving experience.

2022 Honda CR-V Fuel Economy

Since it has the same powertrains as the previous year’s model, the 2022 Honda CR-V is expected to deliver the same fuel economy ratings. When equipped with its gasoline-powered engine, the SUV returns 28/34 mpg (city/highway) with front-wheel drive and 27/32 mpg with all-wheel drive. These figures are excellent for the mid-size SUV segment. If fuel efficiency is an important consideration for you, consider getting a hybrid model, which manages an impressive 40/35 mpg.

Interior

When it comes to interior dimensions and design, things should remain unchanged for the new Honda CR-V. The SUV will continue to feature an upscale yet practical design and high-quality materials throughout its cabin. There’s sufficient headroom and legroom in both rows to accommodate adults of most sizes. The seats provide adequate support and cushioning to keep you and your passengers comfortable even on long journeys. Overall, the CR-V has one of the roomiest and most refined cabins in its segment.

2022 Honda CR-V Cargo Capacity

Not many mid-size SUVs have a larger cargo capacity than the 2022 Honda CR-V. Behind the rear seats, you’ll have 39.2 cubic feet of cargo space, which is enough for storing a few large suitcases or more than a dozen grocery bags. Folding those seats down will give you 75.8 cubic feet of space. In this configuration, the SUV can carry larger items such as camping gear, sports equipment, and some types of furniture.

Infotainment Features

One of the most notable updates of the 2022 Honda CR-V is its improved infotainment system (opens in a new tab). The SUV will probably feature a more user-friendly infotainment system similar to the one found in the 2022 Honda Civic. The new Civic comes with a 9-inch touch-screen display, 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, and standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.  In the 2021 model year, the CR-V came standard with a 5-inch display, Bluetooth, a USB port, and a four-speaker sound system. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were offered as optional features. Many of the previous model’s available infotainment features are expected to be carried over to the 2022 model, including an extra USB port in front, two USB ports in the back, a wireless device charger, navigation, HD radio, satellite radio, and a six-, eight-, or nine-speaker audio system.

2022 Honda CR-V Safety Features

Featuring the same body and frame as the 2021 model, the 2022 Honda CR-V will likely earn the same crash safety ratings as its predecessor. The 2021 Honda CR-V received the highest possible overall rating of five stars in crash safety tests with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awarded the SUV the best rating of “good” in each of its six crash test categories.  Besides providing excellent crash protection, the Honda CR-V also comes with a generous list of standard active safety features (opens in a new tab) that can help you avoid collisions. These features include a rearview camera, forward-collision alert, automatic high-beam headlamps, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance, road departure mitigation, and lane-departure alert. If you want to further reduce your risk of accidents, you can opt for optional safety features such as blind-spot monitors, rain-sensing windshield wipers, front and rear parking sensors, and rear cross-traffic warnings.  The Honda CR-V is already one of the most appealing mid-size SUVs on the market, but it’s expected to win over even more car buyers with its 2022 updates.
